How to honor loved ones we have lost

time, healing, losing a loved one, death

The evidence of a story is in the lines they leave across the face.

Distance can deliver a hard truth that separates two souls. But time, time is a treasure that heals with all the parts it won’t let us forget.

20 years have blown by, the seasons have changed many times, sometimes with the bite of a howling winter wind.time, healing, losing a loved one, death

A tidal wave of thoughts will still soak my face in memories, though all I can do is learn to swim. The calm eventually comes because strong is the only choice we have here.

My lips lead with thanksgiving for all the stories we shared. I wouldn’t trade the storms; that’s where we lived the dance and leaned in with tender care.

Thank you, Father, for the change this one life has made, in his living years and even after death. The depth of loss sheds light on the richness of life. Without knowing the valley, we cannot really know the height.

Time does not separate us. The echo of a voice and the outline of a sweet face is never too far. All these years later, his life still touches a place in my heart. Time is what changes us.

May our hearts remain sensitive to the brevity of life as we breathe in love and peace and blow out the joy of this grace we have in Jesus.

In Loving Memory of my beloved brother, Michael.

Reconcile Every Relationship

One of my dearest friends today is my ex-husband.

I don’t have words to describe the pain I’ve felt in the awareness of my faults that led to our separation but I can tell you what Jesus asked me to do next.

“So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” Matthew 5:23-24

Reconciliation doesn’t mean you rush into the room, yell, “I’m sorry!” and run away… it means a relationship.

I took responsibility for ripping us apart and acknowledged the pain I put him in. I asked for forgiveness in hopes that his hurting heart could begin to heal.

He and I don’t have children together. We don’t work together nor do we live in the same town. BUT, reconciliation means every relationship!

As believers, we don’t realize how much the enemy plays a part in setting up roadblocks to reconciliation, in hopes that we will continue living a life of excuses, instead of one that radiates love and forgives everyone, as He forgave us.

What does this look like for you? Who do you need to seek out and help in the healing process? Not because you have to, but because God wants you to. Where does your heart need to reconcile?

Father God, you see our hearts and know the truths we’ve been hiding from. Those we’ve been running from. Reveal the relationships that need reconciling in our lives. Soften our spirit to accept what you’ve asked us to do. Give us strength to walk through the pain and accept responsibility with no more excuses. I ask this in the name of love, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

He Was There All Along

Today, my cousin Jesse started whispering and he wrote ‘JES’ when asked his name. He will be moved to a rehab facility tomorrow. (Note: his nurse told me a week ago ‘no way would he ever be a candidate for rehab with a brain stem injury like his’.) My sister also asked him if he remembered me flying in and reading the bible to him as he woke up from his coma-HE DID! I recall as I was singing to him, a nurse said ‘you know, he’s not in there. he can’t hear you.’ And I turned to the doctor and said ‘whether it’s from his physical body on this hospital bed or his spirit hovering above, I believe Jesse knows I’m am here’. What reassurance to hear my cousin confirm it… he was there all along.

This morning I was reading in Acts 3&4 about the lame beggar being healed and I just boldly declare this “if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well.” Acts 4:9-10

My heart is so very touched by every one of you who have prayed and continued praying. I’m so deeply thankful for you. I lift you each up in the name of Jesus and pray your heart receives such compassionate love for your faith. It’s because of your prayers and belief in God’s living word of miracles and healing that my cousin is more than alive today. Praise you Jesus! My Abba, Father… You, my King are deserving of all the praise and glory that comes from this healing we believed in and entrusted you for. We lift you up higher… We point to you.

Searching For Your Hand

Praise you Jesus for your healing power… thank you Lord for your light shining through the darkness to a world searching for your hand at work! We give you all the glory! Through my tears I am not letting the enemy steal my joy in Jesus. Thank you God for still being faithful. And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. Matthew 8:13

There’s so much uncertainty with my cousin’s brain injuries; we’re caught between hope and realism. Being with family and at hospital with my cousin, oh, it was just one of the greatest gifts and warmed my heart so much. I hung up encouraging posters in his line of sight, played Jesse’s favorite music for his ears to hear, held his hand and massaged his legs for his skin to feel, and read stories of healing from Matthew– speaking in prayer those words in the name of Jesus over Jesse’s life. Either way, whether it’s from his body in that hospital bed or his spirit hovering above, I believe my cousin sees and knows he is loved and that’s all we can do. To God be any glory from the miracles/healing that occur.

Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

I opened the door to my house, it was very quiet, evident that I left in a hurry and hit me what all just happened. It feels like everything in my life stopped for a moment but the world kept spinning. I’m pretty tired and a bit lost to not be at the hospital when there’s someone in need, but I understand the Lord has it all in His hands and my prayers from hundreds of miles away still have power too. Overall, the joy of the Lord has remained my strength! So if you’re wondering how to pray for me, pray for God’s companionship to comfort me in the quiet and mercy from others as my heart feels a bit ‘needy’ during this time.

A Prayer of Healing

All I can do is fall to my knees.

In the name of Jesus, I speak healing on behalf of my brother in Christ Jesse March. In the midst of physical weakness, may the Lord God Almighty be revealed strong. May every brokenness in that body be made whole, and the Great Healer show His glory through what can only be a supernatural healing from the Great I Am. Your word, oh Magnificent God tells us of miraculous works that bind up every wound, a restoration that makes things new… Even better than before. We believe it, and speak it in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Luke 18:42

Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment. Matthew 9:22

Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment. Matthew 8:13

Heal me, Lord , and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. Jeremiah 17:14

Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there. Matthew 19:2

He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. Psalm 107:20

The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. Matthew 21:14

A Prayer Over Me and You

At a conference in Pennsylvania, Beth Moore prayed this prayer. I am passing it along  as proclamation and prayer over you too. Soak it up sister and let the marvelous Almighty God fill your cup overflowing with His wonder working presence!

“All powerful, All glorious God, Creator and sustainer of Heaven and Earth The One who loves, us, calls us, and graces us He who can do no wrong And for whom NOTHING is impossible

With everything in me this day I intercede for my sister This, Your beloved daughter Set Your love so steadfastly upon her that she feels the beautiful weightiness of it.

Stir up in her an unexplainable hunger for Your Presence and Your Word. Be her prized portion, Lord Jesus.

Awaken anything that has died an unnecessary death in her. Grant her tenderness toward You and compassion toward others. Pluck out by the deepest roots anything in her life that YOU did not plant. Make Yourself noticeable TO her and make Yourself noticeable THROUGH her.

Build her into a REMARKABLE servant That impacts her entire family line. When Your ways are hidden from her, Flood her with the supernatural comfort Of her absolute unhiddenness with You.

Convince her to quit hiding the things that need the most healing. Be her stunning strength in weakness. Lend her rapturous moments of exulting and dancing Even in much tribulation.

Be the best thing that ever happened to her relationships Lord. Give her favor with You and with man. Miraculously birth within her a love for her enemies And after her sacrificial love has come to full bloom, miraculously cause her enemies to be at peace with her.

Right now, Lord, even RIGHT NOW go to the depths of the darkness within her and dispel any hatred buried there. Bring her dramatically into agreement with You Over all her resentment and bitterness And all claims to entitlement Empower her to forsake her unforgiveness and to forsake every grudge and destructive self-comfort.

Fire her up in her a fury of spiritual giftedness and enable her to do what is verifiably impossible for her. Grant her great delight and true humility in serving others Slay every prejudice and fleshly partiality.

Whether or not she is gifted to speak or teach Grant her the supernatural unction to clearly communicate Christ Touch her lips with coals from Your altar And sanctify her to carry the Gospel into her sphere of influence.

Give her eyes to see the invisible and the sacred in the simple. Infuse her with a strong sense of purpose and an undaunted appreciation of adventure.

Make her intolerant of any area of personal bondage and urgent about her freedom. Be her ever-loving Defender and Deliverer.

If she’s in a desert, bloom something stunning and obvious there. If she’s drowning, plant the soles of her feet on the surface of the water. If she’s coldhearted, crack the shell around her heart and set her free to love.

Reveal to her the root of her fears Give her courage to forsake it Then astonish her with a freedom that is not of this world. Jesus, make her living proof. Blow her faith wide open.

In closing, Lord, I speak Your all-glorious Name over her In all the weight and authority it carries. I speak Jesus over her Spirit. I speak Jesus over her heart. I speak Jesus over her mind. I speak Jesus over her physical body.

In obedience to Your Word, I have prayed by faith and my willing sister has received by faith. As You accomplish these divine works according to Your will and to Your purposeful timing, Make her acutely aware that it is YOU.

Cause her to make her boasts in You alone. And cause her with much amazement to behold the miracle within And say, “Who is this You are making me? Who is in this body of mine??”

In Jesus’ wonder-working Name and matchless authority, Amen and So Be It.”
