Matthew 1:18-25

Perspectives with Scripture & Bible Study

Verse 18 Mary was engaged to Joseph when she found out she was pregnant. And her husband Joseph, being a righteous man, was going to just quietly divorce her or break up with her out of respect for her pregnancy.

Verse 20 says an angel came to Joseph and explained everything. She was pregnant by the Holy Spirit and going to give birth to Jesus, the Messiah. The angel told Joseph to marry Mary.

Verse 23 This plan fulfills a prophecy in the Old Testament found in Isaiah, which says “All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Verse 24-25 Joseph wakes from the dream and takes Mary to be his wife.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for fulfilling Your Word. You are a God of order and not chaos. You sort through the confusion and give us supernatural peace through Your Word when things don’t seem to make sense. You see the things that keep me up at night. I pray for Your Spirit to speak to me and make sense of what I don’t understand. Help me to find rest in Your Word and trust You to continue to fulfill all that You have said in the Bible. I pray for a spirit of belief in Your Word, and the footsteps of faith that walk in its Truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
