Ephesians Chapter 3
Verse 16 “‘I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.'” (NLT) The ESV Bible says, “‘that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,'”. I like how the ESV says “the riches of His glory”. God’s glory is endless and unlimited, impossible to understand. Only by God’s grace and mercy are we able to be strengthened with His power through His Spirit working in us. It’s not because of anything we did that was good enough. The same strength and power that He puts in my spirit is the same strength and power He puts in your spirit. It doesn’t matter how long we’ve been walking with God. It doesn’t matter how many good things we do for God… It’s only by His mercy and grace (meaning nothing I deserve) that you and I are strengthened in His power. Thank you, Lord, for giving me access to your power here on earth.
Verse 19 “‘May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.'” (NLT) This is another verse that I want to share from the ESV Bible. It says, “’and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.'” It is wiser to know Jesus’ love than to know knowledge. The love of Jesus contains in itself all of Wisdom. If we do all things in love and out of love… That is the wisest way to live.
Verse 20 “‘Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,'” (ESV) Wowza! Now, this is a verse to highlight and underline and write on fancy boards to hang in our houses. This is a verse to cling to in all situations. Whatever expectations we have of God‘s blessings in our lives, the infinite goodness of God will exceed all of our wishes and thoughts. Now let that soak in and sit with you for the day. All of the greatest things you could possibly think of for the outcome of your life, God is able to do WAY more than what you could even think or imagine to ask of Him. He is able. And you have I have access to ask of Him all that He is able to do. He is able to accomplish infinitely more than we can imagine through His mighty power that’s at work within us. This should encourage us to continue to draw near to God and to stay close every minute of the day. Because when we are close to God, He can go to work in our situation and do far more abundantly than we could ever imagine. And we know that God works all things for good (Romans 8:28) when He goes to work for us. So if you’re having a hard time giving God glory or praise today, think about this verse. This Truth is worth giving Him glory and praise.
When the devil tries to tell you that your situation is not going to get better, that those you love won’t ever change, that you’ll never get to a place of contentment, that things will always be this way, that you don’t have a purpose or calling in life, remember Ephesians 3:20. Make this verse a declaration for all the situations you feel “stuck” in.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me and offering me an incredible life in You, Jesus. I pray that I may live fully empowered with inner strength through Your Holy Spirit. Your mercy is so rich, Jesus. Strengthen my heart daily from this place of mercy, and pour out from your unlimited resources into my life that I may glorify You in all I do. Help my head and heart experience the unfailing, unending, merciful love of You, Jesus. I want to experience the fullness of You in my bones, God. I want to experience the richness of your love, Jesus. The kind of love for others that would make such a sacrifice on the cross. I want to be made complete in the fullness of Your power and love, Jesus. To You, Jesus, who is able to do far more abundantly than all I could ask or imagine, I give You honor and my allegiance. May Your name be glorified and Your ways worshipped in my life. Flow through me, Holy Spirit. Have your way. You are the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. You are my King! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
